President Donald Trump said he has identified a buyer for the U.S. operations of TikTok, the social media platform owned by Chinese company ByteDance Ltd., but he won’t disclose the buyer’s identity for at least two weeks, Hadriana Lowenkron and María Paula Mijares Torres reported for Bloomberg News.

“We have a buyer for TikTok, by the way. I think I’ll need probably China’s approval, and I think President Xi will probably do it,” Trump said, referring to Chinese leader Xi Jinping, in an interview on Fox News Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo.

“It’s a group of very wealthy people.” The interview aired on Sunday.

Trump previously announced he would extend—now for the third time—the deadline for ByteDance to sell TikTok’s U.S. assets. The extension gives the company 90 more days beyond the previous deadline of June 19.

Congress passed a law last year requiring the divestiture due to national security concerns.

The law allowed the president to invoke one extension, but Trump has continued to delay enforcement. Progress on a deal has largely stalled, amid broader U.S.–China tensions over tariffs and trade negotiations.
